How to Apply for the Ulysses Interview Program

Dear Educator,

The Ulysses/Voyager Project teach-one-teach-many Interview Program was such a success among the students, teachers, and parents, we're doing it again! We would like to invite your school to participate in this unique project.

Through one student, this program is designed to share important facts about space science, mission operations, spacecraft design, and project management with many students.

Selection Process

All students who wish to participate must submit a completed interviewer application form (available on-line or in print version at the links below) to the Ulysses/Voyager Outreach Coordinator. Each student applying must obtain a letter of recommendation written on the school letterhead from his/her Science Teacher (to be submitted with the application). All application forms will go through a selection process (final selection made by the Ulysses/Voyager Advisory Board).

Submit applications on-line or mail printed applications and Letters of Recommendation to the address listed below:

Jet Propulsion Laboratory
Ulysses/Voyager Outreach Coordinator
4800 Oak Grove Drive
M/S 264-801
Pasadena, CA 91109-8099

For Fall 2001 interviews, applications must be postmarked by December 1, 2000 or faxed to 818-354-6134 by noon December 1, 2000.

Guidelines

After the selection is made the interviewer may start planning the interview and the work involved in preparing for a formal interview with a Ulysses/Voyager project member.

The student should be aggressive in acquiring the information needed to do an informative but concise interview. (i.e.: web sites, the project office, published articles).
Teacher and Parent participation is encouraged.
The interviewee may be from the Ulysses Project or the Voyager Project.
The student may receive academic credit at their school Principals discretion.

Rules

The interview must be taped (for reference and research purposes only).
The interview may not be longer than one (1) hour.
The interview must take place within six (6) months and during the school calendar year.
Interview questions must be given to the Outreach Coordinator two (2) weeks prior to the interview.
The student must share what he/she learned with classmates or other educational organizations (project office assistance with presentation materials).
We are looking forward to working with your students!

Best Regards,
